Carnival is put on by the municipality with the village associations. In 2024 the Pisoupides, dressed as the old trades (sandal makers, coopers, saddlers, masons), went round the lanes on Meatfare Sunday before a party in the square. On the Sunday before Clean Monday the carnival parade makes its way to the main square.

PRACTICAL

The programme is announced a few days ahead (6 March in 2024, 25 February in 2025). During the parade the main road is closed to cars (16:00–17:30 in 2025). The municipality invites everyone to come 'with or without a costume'.

We found no 2026 notice on the municipal website; the details are from 2024 and 2025.

The Metsovo table

Metsovo cooking rests on pies, 'the triumph of Vlach cooking' as Wace and Thompson wrote in 1914, with leek pie counted as the Metsovo pie, and on roast meat.
