Averoff Gallery

A museum of 19th- and 20th-century Greek painting, open since 27 August 1988, with more than 700 works; about 250 hang permanently, from Gyzis and Lytras to Parthenis, Ghikas, Moralis and Tetsis. It is a 4-minute walk from our gate, on the level.

PRACTICAL

Open daily, including public holidays, 10:00–16:00, closed on Tuesdays. Entry €5; €2.50 for school pupils and students; free for children under 10.

In the late 1950s Evangelos Averoff planted what the winery calls Greece's first Cabernet Sauvignon here.

Tip: Open daily 10:00–16:00, last tour at 15:00.

The Metsovo table

Metsovo cooking rests on pies, 'the triumph of Vlach cooking' as Wace and Thompson wrote in 1914, with leek pie counted as the Metsovo pie, and on roast meat.

Metsovone is a smoked, semi-hard pasta filata cheese, a protected designation of origin since 1996, aged at least 3 months.
