Metsovo all year round: seasons, festivals and what to do each month

Not everyone comes for the snow. Here is what Metsovo does each month, with real temperatures, the village's festivals with their dates, and ideas for stays of 2 to 7 nights.

A YEAR IN METSOVO

01 AT A GLANCE

At a glance

Metsovo, at 1,160 metres, is open all year. December to March brings the best chance of snow and the ski areas; spring brings Easter and the trails; July and August average highs of 25 °C and the feasts of Agia Paraskevi and 15 August; autumn brings wine, forests turning colour and the liberation anniversary. The Averoff Gallery, the Tositsa Mansion and the Katogi Averoff winery welcome visitors every month.

07 QUESTIONS

What guests ask about the seasons

When does it snow in Metsovo?

Usually from December to March, most often in January, never with certainty. The Metsovo station logged 42 frost days in 2025 and 17 in January 2026 alone. Up high it snows earlier and later: above 1,400 metres on 23 November 2025, and in Milia and at Anilio Park on 2–3 May 2026.

Is Metsovo worth visiting in summer?

Yes, especially if you struggle with heat: in July and August the average high is 25 °C and the low 15 °C. It is also the season of Agia Paraskevi (26 July), evenings in the square, Lake Aoos and Valia Calda.

How much cooler is it than Athens?

A lot, above all at night. In August 2025, at National Observatory of Athens stations, the average low was 13.5 °C in Metsovo and 25.1 °C in Athens, and the average high 25.0 °C against 32.9 °C. In August 2026: 28.1 and 15.3 °C in Metsovo, 33.4 and 25.2 °C in Athens.

What happens in Metsovo at Christmas and New Year?

It is the most sought-after time of year: at Christmas 2024 local accommodation was 95% full. On New Year's Eve the square celebrates with music, treats and local produce (from 23:00 in 2025), on New Year's Day the municipality holds a concert, and in Milia, on 1–2 January, the masked 'Arakoi' come out.

When is Metsovo's village feast?
