The Greek National Tourism Organisation calls Metsovo's square one of the most famous in mountain Greece: tall plane trees, Agia Paraskevi with its carved 1730 iconostasis, the 1858 fountain and, on the benches, elderly Metsovites talking in Vlach. Beside it, the Kastro is the grassy hill that formed over the Ottoman fort of 1864–67; its benches and their view were repaired in August 2026.

On August evenings the square hosts events and the road around the Kastro is closed to cars (2026: 31 July–20 August, 20:00–23:30).

A CAVEAT

The exact spot of the Kastro is an inference from research 01; ⚠ owners to confirm.

The Metsovo table

Metsovo cooking rests on pies, 'the triumph of Vlach cooking' as Wace and Thompson wrote in 1914, with leek pie counted as the Metsovo pie, and on roast meat.
