Metsovo's woodcarvers, the 'taliadouroi', made iconostases for churches all over the Balkans; the one in Agia Paraskevi dates from 1730. Today woodcarving lives on mainly in Milia, and saddle-making, barrel-making, beehive-making and weaving are still practised, as the municipality's MARKATO project recorded in 2026.

WHO IT SUITS

  • anyone looking for something handmade

PRACTICAL

Woodcarvings and cheeses are sold in the shops around the square. In Milia, ask for a workshop that takes visitors. In August 2026 Anthochori ran a hands-on weaving workshop for children and adults.

A CAVEAT

Sources disagree on how many workshops Milia has (about 15 or about 40), so we give no number.
